The Science

How It Works

Tretinoin binds to retinoic acid receptors (RARs) in the nucleus of skin cells, modulating gene expression to accelerate keratinocyte differentiation, promote collagen I and III synthesis, inhibit matrix metalloproteinases, and normalize desquamation in the follicular epithelium.

Safety & Side Effects

Initial dryness, peeling, and redness are common as the skin adjusts (retinization period). Sun sensitivity increases significantly — daily SPF is required. Tretinoin is contraindicated during pregnancy. Start with lower concentrations and increase gradually.
